Technological developments and the need for recovery of wastewater allowed the development of biological wastewater treatment systems and the membrane bioreactor (MBR) technology to be designed. Using the Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) Technology allows us to get high quality treated water and reduces the area required for a Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). Therefore, in modernization of the old conventional WWTP plants, the existing area can be used to easily increase the plant’s capacity.
MBR membranes are designed in hollow fiber or flat sheet types and the MBR modules work immersed in the biological treatment reactors. Thanks to the high activated sludge concentration generated within the biological treatment reactors, the MBR modules work more efficiently and a continuous flow is ensured on the membrane surface to prevent any blocks or clogs.
Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) Technology applications have been quickly spreading in our country and the rest of the world. As it is a sensitive system, it is essential that a good design is ensured and operational conditions are taken into account.
Uses of MBR Systems:
- Recovery of domestic wastewater
- Recovery of industrial wastewater
- Capacity increase with less area use at conventional plants
- Modernization of old plants
- Facilities where the area for the Treatment Plant is small
